Orienteers were well represented at the pointy end of the fields in the Mountain Bike Crosscountry National Round held last weekend in Hobart. Adrian Jackson was an extremely close 6th in the elite men's race, while Jo Williams was 13th in the women.

The 2010 OA National Conference in Canberra from 4-5 December has concluded with a number of major development decisions. These included implementation actions on participation development, updating the OA Strategic Plan, an updated High Performance Strategic Plan, commissioning a scoping study for an online services plan, engaging a part-time online media communications support officer for coordination of website story provision, website content maintenance and Enews production, and a marketing operational plan for 2011.

OA Mapping Committee chairman Adrian Uppill organised a highly successful mapping workshop in Adelaide today. It was attended by almost 30 mappers from all states and territories. Highlights included presentations on the latest advances in georeferenced aerial photography and digital photogrammetry, and use of GPS units for improving orienteering mapping.

Christine Brown named Official of the Year at 46th Tasmanian Sports Awards

At the recent Tasmanian Sports Awards, Christine Brown of Esk Valley club received the award for the most outstanding Tasmanian sports official for 2009. The award was a well deserved recognition of Christine’s efforts locally, nationally and internationally.
Hanny Allston of Wellington Ranges was a finalist in the Female Athlete of the Year category for her gold and silver medals at the 2009 World Games and for her 1st place in the Silva National Orienteering Series.

Australia Day honour to Bob Mouatt

Former Orienteering Australia President Bob Mouatt of Red Roos in the ACT has been honoured with an OAM in the Australia Day honours list for services to orienteering. Australian Tax Commissioner Michael D'Ascenzo of Bush Flyers in the ACT was also honoured, receiving an AO for service to public administration.

The Australian Police and Emergency Games hit Hobart's Infamous Dunes

Orienteering Tasmania is hosting the orienteering competition for the Australian Police and Emergency Services Games (AP&ES Games) on Sunday 21 February. The event will be held on arguably Australia's most challenging map, Pittwater, with its technical sand dune terrain, and will be held in conjunction with a local event, so is open to all to take up the challenge. Shared honours in Christmas Five Days

The Southern Highlands of NSW hosted the Christmas Five Days from 27-31 December and attracted orienteers from as far afield as Russia, Sweden and South Africa.
In men's A, Simon Uppill triumphed on day 1 but days 2-5 honours went to Dave Shepherd. In women's A, Aislinn Prendergast won overall with 3 wins to 2 by Bridget Andersen. Women's B had a strong field, with Jo Allison the winner over Maria Brodin (Sweden) and QLD junior star Lillian Burrill.
